Creek Study

Your group will take a walk along the magnificent Jordan Creek, searching for the flora and fauna that make their homes in the stream and its banks! Special themes can be developed upon request.

Guided Nature Trail Hikes or Zoo Tours

Just looking for a little something to make your visit memorable? Check out our guided tours! Our nature trails spread across 1,100 acres of pristine Game Preserve land. You'll discover animal habitats, adaptations, and how to protect yourself outdoors, while learning about the local plant and animal life! Zoo tours cover all of the animals in the Zoo, discussing their adaptations and behaviors in the Zoo and in the wild, and more! Special themes can be developed upon request.

Teacher Workshops

In conjunction with the CLIU 21, the Zoo sponsors teacher workshops that not only earn credits for teachers, but also expose them to many educational field trip opportunities at the Zoo. For more information on these workshops, see our page on Teacher Resources.

Center Range Programs

Using the Center Range, 600 acres of beautiful natural area, we present sessions based on the four seasons. Students enjoy hands-on activities to improve their skills in critical thinking, issue investigation, group interaction, environmental research methods, and problem solving.

Explore and Snore - Discover the Zoo by night!

Your group adventure allows you to explore the Zoo and Game Preserve as few ever see it -- in the dark! You'll discover nocturnal creatures, astronomy, and more! Enjoy a night-time Zoo tour, nature hike, live animal presentation, a snack, and more! Participants sleep indoors, and in the morning help feed the Zoo animals their morning hay!
Groups may bring tents and sleep outdoors if they wish.

Important information about your group visit:

Fees and Costs
Education program cost is in addition to Zoo admission fees. The Zoo offers a discounted rate for groups of 15 or more visitors; see our group admission page for more information.

Location and Travel Times
The Zoo is located in the center of the Trexler/Lehigh County Game Preserve in Schnecksville, approximately seven miles north of Allentown. The Zoo is about a 30 minute drive from Allentown, about 40 minutes from Emmaus or Bethlehem, and 50 minutes from Easton (all travel times vary; estimates are based on moderate traffic conditions). Detailed directions are available here.

Bus Directions
Buses to the Zoo will not clear the covered bridge on Game Preserve Road and must use an alternate route. Please see our directions page for information.

Average Length of Stay
The average group can see most of the Lehigh Valley Zoo in one hour. Groups that decide to participate in the scheduled Conservation Education activities should add another 45 minutes to 3 hours (depending on the program). If you stay for lunch, allow 3 to 4 hours total.

When to Visit
Mornings in May and June are the busiest times at the Zoo. Early spring, fall, and winter are great times to visit, and our education programs are offered all year long. During this time of year, you will find the atmosphere more conducive to learning, with fewer visitors and more active animals.
