Diet: Grass and other available plants. They are able to eat practically anything that grows in the desert, including salty plants rejected by other grazers, when hungry they will eat fish, meat, bones, and skin.

Reproduction: Dromedary camels have a 13 month (365-440 days) gestation period. A female usually bears a single calf, which can walk within hours of birth. Calves reach sexual maturity at five years. The young suckles for one year, but nibbles on vegetation as soon as it is born.

Physical Description: Dromedary camels have one hump. They have small ears that provide acute hearing. These camels also have large eyes, with a soft, doe-like expression that are protected by a double row of long, curly eyelashes. They also have broad, flat, leathery pads with two toes on each foot. Their foot bones are expanded sideways to support the tow pads on each foot.

Behavior: These camels usually form family groups ranging in size from two to twenty individuals. The basic social group consists of one male, one to several females, sub-adults, and the young. The male directs the group from behind as the dominant family member, while the females take turns leading, traveling in a single file line.
