Boy Scout and Girl Scout Programs

Pre-registration is required for all programs.


Include Lehigh Valley Zoo in your next scouting experience! Learn about the Zoo and our unique animal collection in one of our fun-filled scout programs, overnights, or Zoo Reach Programs. The Zoo offers scouts a variety of workshops that meet badge requirements. Each workshop promises hands-on fun and learning with interactive activities, animal encounters, and admission to the Zoo. Scout workshops can take place during an Explore & Snore (Zoo sleepover) or the Zoo Reach can bring animal ambassadors to a scout meeting or award ceremony.

*Badges can be completed for individual groups on a different date or we customize programs (15 person minimum charge). Actual Badges not provided.
*Two Scout chaperones admitted free for the first ten scouts in attendance. One additional chaperone will be admitted free for each ten additional scouts in attendance.

Webelos Naturalist/Forester Event
Webelos will fulfill requirements 3, 6, 7, and 8. Participants will learn about the many ways that the balance of nature is affected on a daily basis. They will also learn about the many things that can be done to ensure respect for nature. Webelos will be asked to compare and contrast the wild animals from the nature hike to the wild animals at the Zoo and explain why zoos are so important to ensure the survival of certain animal species.

Webelos will be fulfilling pin requirements 2, 3, 4, and 6. Learn how to identify trees and flowers common to the area as well as how both wildlife and humans use them. Examine the growth rings of a tree stump and see how the rings tell its life history. Conservation Education staff will also present an animal encounter featuring forest animals and a customized Zoo tour highlighting our forest animals from around the world.

Combined Cub Event
Combined Cub Event for Webelos, Tigers, Bears and Wolves! Everyone works towards a pin, a bead, or a belt loop! Event includes: animal presentations, nature hikes, a conservation message, ecology, and outdoor skills.

Environmental Science Merit Badge
This course is action packed with 11 projects. Some of the projects will take place at the Zoo and other projects need to be done on the scout's own time. This course is a combination of guided activities and independent work. Course adheres to BSA requirements.

This course features activities that complete Bird Study and go towards requirements for Insect Study, and Reptile and Amphibian Study. Course adheres to BSA requirements.

Daisies Girl Scout Program
Three Cheers for Animals/Between Earth and Sky
Explore how to care for animals at the Zoo. Learn how animals are cared for. Observe the wonders of nature by examining local plant life while on a nature hike in the Trexler Nature Preserve.

Explore the Animal Kingdom - Learn how to choose the right pet, discover the wonder of wildlife, and why these animals should stay wild. On a hike you will have the opportunity to observe animals in the wild and learn how insects communicate, camouflage, and collect their food.

Explore water and learn about the importance of water, its layers and everything it's a part of. Find out how to conserve water and search a stream for aquatic plants and animals.

Junior Girl Scout Program-Animal habitats
Explore nature and learn what animals need in a habitat to survive and learn what you can do to help protect wildlife. Join us for sky watching, hiking, digging, and discovering different creatures of the sky and those found on the ground.

Junior Girl Scout Overnight Camper Badge-Space is limited
Join Lehigh Valley Zoo for an overnight adventure. This program features a guided nighttime Zoo tour to see some nocturnal species, nighttime nature hike, owl calling, cook a snack over a camp fire, in addition to other fun activities. Stay inside one of the education classrooms or bring your own tent and camp outside.
