Cub Scout Events

Pre-registration is required for all programs

Two scout chaperones admitted free for the first 10 scouts in attendance. One additional chaperone will be admitted free for each 10 additional scouts in attendance.
Webelos Naturalist and Forester Event

Webelos will fulfill requirements 3, 6, 7, and 8. Participants will learn about the many ways that the balance of nature is affected on a daily basis. They will also learn about the many things that can be done to ensure respect for nature. Webelos will be asked to compare and contrast the wild animals from the Nature Hike to the wild animals at the Zoo and explain why zoos are so important to ensure the survival of certain animal species.

Webelos will be fulfilling pin requirements 2, 3, 4, and 6. Learn how to identify trees and flowers common to the area as well as how both wildlife and humans use them. Examine the growth rings of a tree stump and see how the rings tell its life history. Conservation Education staff will also present an Animal Encounter featuring forest animals and a customized Zoo tour highlighting our forest animals from around the world

Combined Cub Event

Combined Cub Event for Webelos, Tigers, Bears and Wolves! Everyone works towards a pin, a bead, or a belt loop! Event includes: animal presentations, nature hikes, a conservation message, ecology, and outdoor skills.

Environmental Science Merit Badge

This course is action packed with 11 projects. Some of the projects will take place at the Zoo and other projects need to be done on the scout's own time. This course is a combination of guided activities and independent work. Course adheres to BSA requirements.

Combined Merit Badge Event

This course features activities that go toward four merit badges: Animal Science, Bird Study, Insect Study, and Reptile Study. Course adheres to BSA requirements.

Brownie Try -It Events
Pre-registration required

Animals Try –It Event

Explore the Animal Kingdom - learn how to safely enjoy wildlife, how animals move, how animals' bodies affect the way the live and how animals communicate. Patch provided upon completion.

Water Everywhere Try –It Event

Explore water - learn about the importance of water, its layers and everything it's a part of. Find out how to conserve water and search a stream for aquatic plants and animals. Patch provided upon completion.

Watching Wildlife Try –It Event

Earth & Sky/ Eco –Explorer Try –It Event

Explore nature and learn what animals need in a habitat to survive. Ecology is the study of how plants and animals live together in the environment. Create your own habitat, learn about food chains, endangered species, and what you can do to help protect wildlife. Join us for sky watching, hiking, digging, and discovering different creatures of the sky and those found on the ground. Patch provided upon completion.

Junior Badge Events

Your Outdoor Surroundings Badge Event

Our Conservation Educators will teach you about their exciting careers and how to protect our fragile environment while exploring nature and enjoying fun outdoor activities in the beautiful Trexler Nature Preserve. Badge provided upon completion.

Plants and Animals Badge Event

Our Conservation Educators will take you on a safari and share expertise about working with animals. You will learn how to grow your own greenery, which plants are pleasant and which are pests, and how to create your very own artwork made of seeds. Badge provided upon completion.

Wildlife Badge Event

Explore wildlife with our Conservation Educators as they share their wildlife secrets with you. Learn which plants are poisonous, how to identify and categorize wildlife, and all about Pennsylvania’s state wildlife symbols. You will even get to test your new techniques on a majestic bird of prey. Badge provided upon completion.
