Lehigh Valley Zoo’s core purpose – to save species from extinction – inspires our work, our conservation education programs, and our leadership in wildlife conservation. Lehigh Valley Zoo is audited and meets the accreditation standards of the prestigious Association of Zoo and Aquariums (AZA) which indicates the Zoo’s commitment to education, conservation and top-quality animal care. With more than 220 accredited members, representing the top ten percent of zoos and aquariums in North America, the AZA is a leader in global wildlife conservation, and a link to helping animals in their native habitats. Collectively, AZA zoos and aquariums represent the finest institutions and are visited by more than 130 million people each year. (That’s more people than attended professional baseball, basketball, football, and hockey combined.) During 2012, Lehigh Valley Zoo’s attendance was over 125,000 visitors and over 35,000 students participated in our formal education programs. In 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, the Zoo was voted Best Family Day Trip in The Morning Call’s Readers’ Choice Awards.
