Endangered Species Day
Saturday, May 16, 2015
Home to more than 300 animal ambassadors representing over 125 species, Endangered Species Day highlights the Zoo's 22 Species Survival Plan animals, including the Zoo's Mexican Gray Wolf and Scimitar Horned Oryx. This Endangered Species Day, Lehigh Valley Zoo will surround its Jaindl Penguin Pavilion with a four foot high curtain to "vanish" the endangered African penguin from sight of children, teaching children "and their parents" that without their urgent support, the African penguin could go extinct in their lifetime. When the Zoo raises $5,000, the curtain will drop, and the proceeds will launch the Global Conservation Fund at Lehigh Valley Zoo.
