Accountable to: Director of Development & Marketing
General Description: Internships are available in Development & Marketing year-round. This internship is appropriate for candidates studying communications, marketing, public relations, event coordination, or related areas. Interns are not required to be enrolled with an educational institution or program at the time of internship. This internship is unpaid. Intern may receive academic credits if applicable.

Job responsibilities will vary based upon focus area of internship. Responsibilities may include any of the following:

  • Planning and execution of events, activities, and Zoo rentals (day and evening)
  • Helping to further develop the Zoo’s membership program
  • Helping to further develop the Zoo’s A.D.O.P.T. an Animal program
  • Data entry
  • Office administrative tasks (typing, filing, folding, collating, mailings, etc.)
  • Communication with sponsors including sponsorship fulfillment
  • Phone work (incoming and outgoing)
  • Direct contact with Zoo visitors and general public in a promotional capacity

Required Knowledge and Skills: High school diploma or GED with minimum two years in a college program (or equivalent experience) in communications, creative writing, marketing, events, or any similar course of study. A working knowledge of basic office computing (MS Word, Excel) is required. Scheduling requirements are flexible. Credit is available at respective educational institutions; all credit requirements will be met, but intern is responsible for coordinating internship with educational institution. Interns are not required to be enrolled in an academic program and may elect to intern on an individual basis for job experience only.
